400 Year of Stellar Rotation

To celebrate the 400 years of the public announcement of Sun's Rotation by Galileo Galilei, the workshop 400 Years of Stellar Rotation, co-sponsored by the European Southern Observatory and the International Institute of Physics of Natal, will be held in Natal, Brazil on November 17-22 2013.

Samba 4.0 has been released and comprises an LDAP directory server, Heimdal Kerberos authentication server, a secure Dynamic DNS server, and implementations of all necessary remote procedure calls for Active Directory.

Earth-mass exoplanet orbiting Alpha Centauri B

European astronomers have discovered a planet with about the mass of the Earth orbiting Alpha Centauri B, the nearest star system. It is also the lightest exoplanet ever discovered around a star like the Sun. The planet was detected using the HARPS instrument on the 3.6-metre telescope at ESO’s La Silla Observatory in Chile.
