ALMA Common Software  Popular
The ALMA Common Software (ACS) provides a software infrastructure common to all partners in the ALMA project. It consists of a documented collection of common patterns in control systems and of components, which implement those patterns. The heart of ACS is an object model of controlled devices, called Component, implemented as CORBA network objects. Objects such as antenna mount, power supply, etc. are defined by means of Components. Programmers can write Java client applications by connecting those Beans with data-manipulation and visualization Beans using commercial visual development tools or programmatically. ACS can be used by any project as the CORBA-based infrastructure for the development of the control software and of higher level applications.

glish  Popular
Glish is a scripting language and accompanying C++ library. Using these two elements it is very easy to develop distributed, loosely coupled, applications. The C++ library implements a "software bus" which allows applications to easily be distributed across a heterogenious network. The scripting language itself is a vector oriented calculator with language constructs designed for control of asynchronous events. It allows the user to control and connnect processes attached to the "software bus". Glish is currently used primarily for data analysis and telescope control. It is a cornerstone of the data analysis system called AIPS++.
